Peterson's Complete Game Leads Baseball To 7-1 Win Over Cleveland State April 27, 2007 Chicago, Ill.- Senior righthander Zach Peterson tossed all nine innings to win his fourth consecutive start, leading the UIC baseball team to a 7-1 victory over Cleveland State at Les Miller Field on Friday night. Peterson scattered seven hits in his first complete game of the season, fanning seven Vikings and allowing just one unearned run in the process. Micky Pingree went 3-for-4, while Chad Schroeder scored three times and drove in a pair for the Flames (21-15, 12-4 Horizon League). The Flames scored first when Chad Schroeder came home on Larry Gempp Jr.'s single to center in the bottom of the first for an early 1-0 lead for the home team. UIC then batted around in the fourth to score five times. With the bases loaded and one out, Schroeder drove home two runs on a double down the left field line. Nick Rainwater followed with a perfectly-executed sacrifice bunt to score a hustling Ty Rubio from third, while three consecutive two-out singles from Pingree, Gempp and Brett Schaefer produced another tally. After Cleveland State (10-28, 7-8 Horizon League) scored an unearned run following two UIC errors in the seventh, the Flames got that run back in their half of the eighth on Chris Rutta's RBI single. The game ended on a spectacular diving catch by Gempp, who made the grab while crashing into the centerfield wall. The Flames and Vikings finish the series with a doubleheader on Saturday at Les Miller Field beginning at 1:05 p.m.
