Cowgirls Defeat McMurry in Five Games

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' volleyball looked to be in cruise control, but had to hold off a strong McMurry push to win in five games, 30-21, 30-28, 26-30, 30-32, 15-7 in American Southwest Conference action Wednesday night at Kimbrell Arena in Abilene.

HSU easily won the first game and were in control of the second game, before McMurry put together a run to win the third game. HSU seemed again to have the match in control in the fourth game, leading 20-11 before McMurry rallied to win the game 32-30.

The Cowgirls regained their composure and easily won the fifth game.

Amanda Mace led the Cowgirl offense with 14 kills and Chelsea Buetow added 13. Megan Lawrence had one of her best games of the year hitting .242 with nine kills. Kaela Parnell had nine kills and Cambra Hughes in the Cowgirl balanced attack.

Defensively, the Cowgirls were led by Sam Lucien's 25 digs. Buetow and Mace had 18 and 17 digs respectively giving each of them a double-double. Amanda Curry had 44 assists and also added 11 digs and six kills.

McMurry was led by middle blocker Terah Brown with 15 kills. Mandie Moore added 14 kills.

HSU is now 18-5 on the year and 15-1 in league play. McMurry fell to 16-5 overall and 11-5 in conference play. HSU will play in the Austin College Tournament this weekend.
