FORNEY, Texas - Hardin-Simmons and East Texas Baptist split a non-conference softball doubleheader on Friday night in Forney, with ETBU winning the first game 15-6 and the Cowgirls responding with a 9-7 win. ETBU took control of the first-game with a 12-run top of the first. It was a rough homecoming for Cowgirl pitcher Megan Murrey, who allowed nine runs in one-third of an inning. Arin Spence had a solo home run for HSU and Miranda Rousset added a grand slam for HSU. Christy Shipley had three hits, including a home run for ETBU. In the nightcap, Nicole Espinoza started the game in the circle and Kati Winkler came on in relief and earned the win as the Cowgirls rallied from a 7-4 deficit. Lydia Bradley had a three-run home run to tie the game in the fifth and Spence gave the Cowgirls the lead with a two-run homer in the sixth. Spence had three hits to fuel the offense. She did not see the circle in the doubleheader. East Texas Baptist moves to 25-12 on the year and the Cowgirls are 23-9. HSU closes the regular season with a four-game set at Howard Payne, beginning on Friday. --- HSU Athletics --- |
