Cowgirls Fall To UMHB

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons was once again victimized by the big inning as they dropped an American Southwest Conference doubleheader to Mary Hardin-Baylor, 7-1, 10-4 in action at Cowgirl Field on Saturday.

In game one, the Cowgirls gave the Crusaders five runs in the first inning. The Crusaders had five hits and benefited from two Cowgirl errors in the inning. The Crusaders scratched across single runs in the second and fourth innings.

HSU got its lone run in the third inning when Ashley Lang singled with two outs. Amber Pierce doubled her to third and Keri Ivey singled her home.

Brandi Wicker took the loss for the Cowgirls on the mound. Six different Cowgirls had singles in the game.

In the second game, Mary Hardin-Baylor put together five hits to score six runs in the third inning. Jennifer Pietrowski continued her torrid weekend with a homer to lead off the fourth and UMHB scored another tally in the fourth and two more in the fifth.

HSU had its biggest offensive rally in the third inning when the Cowgirls scored three runs. Brittney Henry walked and moved to third on an error on a Miranda Rousett grounder. Mia Lopez then drove in Henry. Ashley Lang then singled to load the bases and Amber Pierce singled in Rousett and Lopez. Lang added an RBI single as the Cowgirls scored a run in the fourth.

Pierce and Lang had two hits each to lead the Cowgirl attack. Keri Ivey took the loss on the mound.

HSU fell to 2-12 on the year and 0-7 in ASC action. UMHB improved to 9-5 overall and 7-5 in ASC West play.
