ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons placed five players on the All-American Southwest Conference first team and seven Cowgirls were honored for their play this season by the league's coaches.

Senior defender Natalie Longhofer and juniors Mindi Zamora, Jacky Cox, Whitney Piendak and April Johnson were named to the first team. Freshman forward Morgan Loyd was named second team and freshman defender Kelly Watson was named third team.

The Cowgirls were once again hampered by the "Hardin-Simmons" rule which limits the numbers of players a team can nominate for all-conference. The Cowgirls had as many as 12 players that would have been selected to the All-ASC teams, if they were able to be nominated.

Cowgirl freshman Kelly Watson was named ASC defensive freshman of the year, giving the Cowgirls their only individual award this year. Alina Kilkenny of East Texas Baptist was named to the ASC offensive freshman of the year.

Janna Wilson of East Texas Baptist was named ASC Offensive Player of the Year, after she set an ASC record with 28 goals. Kelli Jackson of UT-Dallas was named the ASC Defensive Player of the Year. The coach of the year award was shared by John Antonisse and Trey Carlisle.

Hardin-Simmons won the American Southwest Conference regular season and conference title and are 19-1 on the year and ranked seventh in the nation. They will play Pomona-Pitzer in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday at the HSU Soccer Complex.
