Cowgirls Set To Host Sectional Tournament



Kendra Anderson and the Cowgirls Will Host The NCAA Sectional

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team will take its 27-0 mark and No. 1 national ranking into the sectional round of the NCAA Tournament, when it will host 24-5 Trinity on Friday at approximately 7:30 at the Mabee Complex. The Cowgirls are 1-3 in Sweet 16 Games. The win came the last time the Cowgirls hosted the Sectional in 2000, they beat McMurry 62-60. Unranked St. Norbert out of De Pere, Wis. will put its 23-4 mark and 19-game winning streak on the line against No. 4 Washington (Mo.). The Bears are 25-1 and are back to the Sweet 16 after a one year absence. Washington won four straight NCAA Division III National Titles from 1998-2001. That game will begin at 5:30.

Trinity-HSU II - Trinity and Hardin-Simmons will have a rematch of the second game of the season for both teams and the Cowgirls came out on top by a 69-56 count. Kendra Anderson led the way for the Cowgirls in that game with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Lauren Harris and Diana Martinez each had 16 points and Laura Ricci had nine points and 11 rebounds. The Cowgirls were playing that game without Keila Remmele, Veronica Jones and Terri Robinson, who have been integral parts of the Cowgirls' stretch run. Trinity was led by Melissa Carl's 15 points and eight rebounds. They committed 29 turnovers in the game but won the battle of the boards 39-26. Trinity has added mid-year transfer Jenna Smith from Baylor and four-time All-SCAC player Megan Selmon was studying abroad in the first semester.

Last Time Out - The Cowgirls received a school-record eight 3-pointers from junior forward Lauren Harris and HSU drained 15 3-pointers as a team in a second round win over Randolph-Macon in front of nearly 2,200 fans at the Mabee Complex. Harris tied her head coach Shanna Briggs' record for 3-pointers in a game. All-American Kendra Anderson had 22 points and 12 rebounds and the Cowgirls' starters came out mid-way through the second half. Trinity snuck by Maryville, 66-60.
