Sept. 7, 2002 ABILENE, Texas - Trevor Elza's goal in the 11th minute gave the Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team a 1-0 win over Austin College in the last game of the Clay Corder Memorial Tournament Saturday at Shelton Stadium. Elza scored the only goal in the game on an assist from Scott Ballard. Elza was transferred to the hospital for a closed head injury he suffered while taking the shot. "We have two wins and two shutouts for the weekend," said head coach Kevin Wardlaw. "The team showed a lot of hard work and heart on the field this weekend. We learned from our mistakes and are going to practice hard this week for next weekend games." James Burton, a sophomore forward, led the team with five shots and sophomore Nick Pugh lead the team with two shots on goal. Goalkeeper Tim White recorded his second consecutive shutout in goal. HSU moved to 3-1 on the season and AC fell to 0-3 on the year. The Cowboys will return to action Friday September 13 when they travel to Georgetown, Texas to play Trinity in the Southwestern Invitational. |
