Nov. 26, 2007
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team jumped out to a 16-point first half lead, but Trinity was able to chip away and the Cowboys last second shot at the buzzer was off the mark as HSU fell 66-64 to Trinity on Tuesday night in Sams Gym in San Antonio. The Cowboys led 31-15 in the first half as they sank eight 3-pointers in the first nine minutes of the game, but in the end it was Trinity that was able to hold the Cowboys off the board. HSU's last field goal of the game came with 5:12 when Casey Riddle hit a runner in the lane. The Cowboys scored only one point the rest of the way on a Marcus Smith free throw. Smith was again the top scorer for the Cowboys as he poured in 22 points, including five 3-pointers, but his trey at the buzzer hit the back rim. Trinity won the game at the free throw line and could have won by a bigger margin. Trinity was 15-for-33 in the game at the line. HSU was 6-for-8. Mardochee Jean had 12 points and eight rebounds for the Cowboys. B.J. Moon led Trinity with 12 points and Nick Polidoroff had 10 in a balanced attack. HSU is now 1-1 on the year, while Trinity improved to 4-0. HSU will play at Sam Houston State on Thursday at 7 p.m. |
