Cougar tennis player Sarah Flood to be featured in Sports Illustrated

Sept. 10, 2003

University of Houston tennis player Sarah Flood will be featured in an article in Sports Illustrated set to hit newsstands Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003.

In the fall of 2001, Flood lost her mother to cancer only three months after her diagnosis. Flood flew home to Reading, England to attend her mother's funeral on Sept., 11, 2001, and while driving home after the funeral, was involved in a near-fatal head-on collision which left her in a coma for three weeks and in the hospital for ten.

Due to the nature of her injuries, doctors said she'd never play tennis again. Through rehabilitation and hard work, Flood proved everyone wrong when she returned to the tennis court and her teammates at the University of Houston for the spring 2003 season after missing all of 2001 and 2002. She appeared in 10 singles and 18 doubles matches for the Cougars, posting a 4-6 record in singles and a 10-8 record in doubles.

Flood is the first tennis player from the University of Houston to be featured in Sports Illustrated.
