Cougar tennis sweeps Saint Louis in opening round of C-USA Tournament

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Third-seeded University of Houston tennis team cruised to a 4-0 victory over No. 14 Saint Louis in the first round of the Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship on Thursday at Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cougars will next face the winner of the Marquette/Southern Miss match on Friday at Seneca Park at 11 a.m. The Cougars picked up the doubles point with Diana Martin and Karine Urbin cliching an 8-2 decision over SLU's Katerina Lozanova and Melissa Cutler at No. 2. while Yolandi Yerblanche and Kami Miller followed, defeating Rebecca Steer and Lindsay Winninger, 8-1. In singles action. Houston nabbed three singles matches in straight sets as Terblanche finished with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over SLU's Cutler, while Miller swept Winninger, 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 5 position. Urbin then downed Rebecca Steer, 6-1, 6-1, to clinch the victory.
