Final Stats

In posting victories in seven events, including the three-meter diving competition, the University of Tennessee women's swimming program continued its dominance in the second day of the Cougar Invitational at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium on the University of Houston campus on Friday, Nov. 21.

The host Cougars maintained a second-place showing, followed by Florida International, Arkansas, which sent only its diving team, and Incarnate Word.

The three-day meet continues at 10 a.m., Saturday at the CRWC Natatorium. Swimming preliminaries are slated to begin at that time with the swimming finals slated to start at 6 p.m.

Saturday's schedule of events includes the 1,650-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly and the 400-yard freestyle relay.

The Lady Volunteers captured first place finishes in the 200-yard medley relay, the 400-yard medley relay and the 800-yard freestyle relay, while Houston etched second-place in the 400-yard medley with a time of 3:57.82 and the 800-yard freestyle in 7:43.58.

For the Cougars, sophomore diver Azul Almanzan, who had a lead following the 3-meter preliminaries this afternoon, fell to second place in the finals to Tennessee junior Lauryn McCalley.

Freshman Szintia Szanto took first place in the 400-yard IM with a final time of 4:25.06. Kristina DeWitt notched second place in the 100-yard breaststoke with a time of 1:05.85, while Kristin Bay placed second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.94.
