HOUSTON & COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Senior captain Kristin Bay won the 100-yard backstroke to lead the University of Houston swimming team during the second day of the Cougar Invitational on Saturday at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium.

The Cougars earned 564 points to trail crosstown rival Rice's 918 points. Incarnate Word was in third place with 138 points, and New Orleans rounded out the field with 129 points.

Meanwhile, the Cougar diving team dominated the competition at the Texas A&M Invitational. Sophomore Anna Kiess won her ninth consecutive event with 489.05 points on the 3-meter springboard at the Student Rec Center Natatorium.

Junior captain Azul Almazan was a close second with 486.05 points, while sophomore Rachel Gitelson finished sixth with 427.90 points.

After leading the Cougars in the preliminaries earlier in the day, Bay added her second time to the Cougars' all-time Top 10 with a clocking of 58.14 in the finals, making it the 10th-fastest time in school history.

The Tyler, Texas, native also was a member of the Cougars' 200-yard medley relay team, which finished second with a time of 1:47.67

Sophomore Szintia Szanto finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.92

The Cougar Invitational concludes at 10 a.m., Sunday with the preliminaries of the 1,650-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard butterfly. The finals of those events and the 400-yard freestyle relay will begin around 5 p.m.

The UH divers conclude their stay at the meet Sunday with the platform competition. Preliminaries are scheduled to start around 1:30 p.m. with the finals to follow shortly after.
