No. 9 DePaul Completes Sweep With 3-0 Win Over Houston
March 30, 2003
HOUSTON - Sophomore Jenilee Skender had Houston's two hits as the Cougar Softball team fell to No. 9 DePaul 3-0 Sunday afternoon at the Cougar Softball Stadium. The defeat completed a three-game sweep for DePaul (21-4, 7-1 C-USA) as Houston fell to 24-16 overall and 6-3 in Conference USA. DePaul jumped to a 2-0 lead after scoring one run in the first inning on a Houston fielding error and one in the second on a Christina Douglas solo homerun. Skender answered with a double to left center in the bottom of the second but was left on base. With two outs in the fourth, Skender singled down the left field line for her and Houston's second and only hits of the day. Saskia Roberson hit the Blue Demon's second solo homerun of the afternoon in the fifth to increase DePaul's lead to three. Freshman pitcher Crystal Briscoe kept the Blue Demons contained for the remainder of the game but the Houston offense could not produce any runs. Briscoe (6-4) allowed five hits, struck out three and picked up the loss in her fifth complete game. The Cougar defense, which has struggled this season, committed three errors for a total of eight in the three-game DePaul series.
Houston will hit the road for a three-game conference series with Charlotte beginning Friday at 1 p.m.
