Houston Adds To Win Streak With Wins Over Sam Houston and McNeese State

Houston, Texas - Houston began the game scoring runs in the first. Kim Cote singled with two outs to get on base as the teams first base runner. Cote advanced to second on a past ball followed by Ray Ferreris who was walked to first. Jenilee Skender doubled past the third baseman to score the first run. Then Jeanie Davis hit the next runner in for a second run making the score 2-0 in the top of the first. Sam Houston scored five on one homerun by Elizabeth Magee in the third inning. To bring the score back to even, the Cougars scored three runs in the fifth. Riane Netardus singled to first, Ferreris was hit by a pitch to move Netardus to second and both runners advanced on a past ball. Ali McDougal singled to centerfield and earned 2 RBI on the hit. Kristen Glowacz reached on a fielders choice and Keith scored the last run with a single to center. The score at the bottom of regulation, 5-5. The International tiebreaker began in the seventh placing Jeanie Davis on second. She was scored on a past ball and a wild pitch and Sam Houston was unable to counter. The final score 6-5. The tenth win for the Cougars over McNeese State finally arrived a little after schedule, but on time enough for the players and coaches 4-2. The Cougars began their scoring in the bottom of the third, scoring four runs on three hits and a walk. Freshman Michelle Keith singled first, followed by Leslie Seay and Jenilee Skender. Skender earned one RBI for the hit along with a RBI for McDougal. The Cowgirls attempted a comeback scoring one run in the top of the fourth. Leslie Seay helped close the inning with a diving catch towards second base. A solo homerun ended the scoring for McNeese State the final 4-2.
The Cougars are back in action on Saturday February 16 at the Houston Invitational playing Stephen F. Austin at 3:00pm and Baylor for the night game scheduled for 7:00pm. The Cougars finish on Friday with an overall record of 10-0.
