LAFAYETTE, La. - The University of Houston soccer team tallied only six shots, but was able to come away with a 2-1 road win against Louisiana Lafayette, Sunday at the Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility.

Houston (2-0) got goals from Christine Nieva (Mesquite, Texas/North Mesquite HS/Arizona State) and Lauri Byrne (Southlake, Texas/Southlake Carroll HS) and goalkeeper Shelby Scott (Mesquite, Texas/North Mesquite HS) made nine saves in net.

Louisiana Lafayette (2-2-1) tallied 29 shots to UH's 6 including a 17-1 advantage in the first half.

After a scoreless 55:58, Nieva knocked home a goal off a Jessica Rathweg (Spring, Texas/Klein HS) corner kick to give UH a 1-0 lead.

The Ragin Cajuns answered 20 seconds later when Stephanie Lynch scored her third goal of the season off a through-pass from Callie Oliver and things were knotted at 1-1.

UH didn't take long to respond as Byrne tallied her first-career goal at the 58:46 mark when she chipped the ball over UL `keeper Kristen Malen's head. Islara Rodriguez (Houston, Texas/Awty International School) assisted on that goal closing out all the scoring for the game in a three-minute span.

Seven minutes later, in the 64th minute, Scott saved a penalty kick from Lynch following a red card on UH defender Brittany Cannon (Carrollton, Texas/Creekview HS).

With UH down a player for the final 26:30, Scott made three more saves, including stopping a shot from Lynch with two second remaining on the game clock. Lynch took nine shots in the game, tying her own UL single-game record.

Scott earned her second-straight win after facing 29 shots, 10 of which were on goal. She needs six wins to tie UH's all-time goalkeeper wins record, held by Michelle Denomme', with 17 victories.

The Cougars moved to 2-0 for the second-straight year. Head coach Susan Bush became the first coach in UH soccer history to win her first two matches. Cannon will serve a one-match suspension as a result of the red card.

Houston returns home for two matches next weekend on John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium. The Cougars face Grambling State at 7 p.m. CDT Friday before taking on LSU at Noon on Sunday.
