DALLAS (Oct. 12) -- The University of Houston golf team was 11 strokes under par Tuesday afternoon at the Red River Classic in Dallas, but the Cougars couldn't catch the leaders in the final round.

Houston shot a final round total of 277 for the team1s third-straight round at nine-under par or better, but even a 54-hole score of 36 (828) was enough to catch team champion Oklahoma State when the smoke finally cleared. OSU won the annual 15-team event with a stunning tournament record score of 813 strokes, a full 51 shots under par. Each of the 15 teams in the field finished under par for the tournament.

The Cougars were led by senior B.J. Staten and junior Andy Sanders, who both finished tied for 5th in the 87-player field with identical scores of 12-under par 204. Sanders fired a brilliant 63 Tuesday to move up 23 spots on the individual leaderboard. South Carolina1s John Bloomfield won the individual title with a 19-under par score of 197.

UH senior Chris Morris, a native of nearby Tyler, Texas, finished tied for 17th with a 8-under 208. Sophomore Wade Ormsby tied for 28th with a 212 (-4). True freshman Brett Callas was 6-over at 222 while senior James Edmondson finished at 2-over 218 playing as an individual.
