Golf Continues Season Monday at Club Glove Intercollegiate

SOMIS, Calif. - The University of Houston golf team continues its 2004 fall season Monday when it competes at the Club Glove Intercollegiate at Saticoy Country Club.

The 54-hole tournament begins with 54 holes Monday on the 6,883-yard, par-72 course. The Cougars join a nationally competitive field, which includes Kent State, Arizona State, Texas Tech, Baylor, Coastal Carolina, North Carolina State, SMU, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UTEP and host Pepperdine.

The Cougars come into the tournament on the heels of a fourth-place finish at the Kansas Invitational on Sept. 20-21 at Lawrence, Kan. At that event, sophomore Pablo Acuna enjoyed a career tournament and finished in a personal-best third place.

Acuna is one of three Cougars with a scoring average under 73.0. Junior captain Zach Mowbray leads UH with a 72.0 average, while sophomore Ricky Romano is a close second at 72.3 Acuna ranks third on the team at 72.5.

Other Cougar linksters scheduled to compete are senior Jordan Hasbrouck and freshman Jordan Irwin.

This marks the second consecutive season that the Cougars have competed at this tournament. A year ago, UH finished 12th at the tournament with Denton Walker tying for 13th place to lead the Cougars individually.
