Golf Returns to Action at Hall of Fame Invitational
March 18, 2004 HOUSTON - There will be little rest for the weary as the University of Houston football team returns to action Friday during the Hall of Fame Invitational at Redstone Golf Club in Houston. The tournament runs through Sunday with each team playing 18 holes per day. Friday's action begins at 8 a.m., on the 7,070-yard, par-72 course. In addition to host Texas, the Cougars will face some of the nation's top collegiate teams, including Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, Averett College, East Tennessee State, Francis Marion, Minnesota, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Rice, TCU, Texas A&M and UNLV as well as teams from England and Sweden. The Cougars come into the tournament on the heels of a 13th-place showing on Monday and Tuesday at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate in Austin, Texas. At that event, sophomore co-captain Zach Mowbray emerged as the team's steadiest player. The Mesa, Ariz., native was the only Cougar to shoot even par or better in all three rounds and started the tournament with a 3-under-par 69, a personal best in 2003-04.
Mowbray now leads the team with a 73.8 scoring average and joins Denton Walker and Ricky Romano as the only players to compete in all six tournaments this season.
