Cougar Golf Team Finishes In 11th Place at Duke's Coca-Cola Classic

Durham, N.C. - The University of Houston men's golf team fired a 3-under par 285 in the third and final round to climb three spots and finish in 11th place at the Duke Coca-Cola Classic on Monday. Senior Jordan Irwin shot a 4-under par score of 68 in the final round on the par to lead the Cougars, and finished the tournament tied for 15th place overall with a three-round total of 2-under par 214 on the par 72 - 7,105-yard course at the Duke Country Club. Irwin made 11 birdies during the tournament, including six during the final round. Junior Steven Frazier finished tied for 38th place with a three-round total of 4-over-par 220 after closing out the tournament with an even-par 72 in the final round. Frazier tied Josh Sandman of Notre Dame for the best score on par-three holes in the tournament with an average score of 2.83, and made two birdie shots in the final round. Sophomore Jackie Lindsey posted a 7-over-par score of 223 during the three rounds after shooting 2-over par on the final 18 holes. Junior college transfer Brady Shivers shot a 1-under 71 in the final round to finish the tournament at 16-over par 232. He made five birdie shots during Monday's third round. Ben Moser shot a 6-over-par 78 in the final round and ended the tournament with an 11-over-par score of 227. Moser made an eagle on the seventh hole and made three birdies during the third round of the tournament. Houston closes out its 2007 Fall Schedule on Oct. 24-25 at the Del Walker Intercollegiate in Long Beach, Calif. The Cougars open their Spring campaign on Feb. 17-18 at the GADO North Texas Classic in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Houston plays host the All-American Intercollegiate on Feb. 25-26 on the Tradition Course of the Cypresswood Club and the Border Olympics in Laredo on Mar. 14-15. |
