The University of Houston men's golf team fired a three-over-par 291 in the second round and moved up two spots into third place at the 2007 Conference USA Championship at the Texarkana Country Club.

Houston's Jordan Irwin finished the second round tied for first place in the individual standings with Tulsa's Ryan Henry at four-under-par 140. Irwin fired a three-under-par score of 69, the top score in the second round, after opening the tournament at one-under-par on Sunday. In the second round, Irwin shot an eagle on the 17th hole, had birdies on the fifth, eighth, 12th and 13th holes and shot par on 10 holes of the par-72, 6,935-yard course.

Steven Frazier also holed an eagle shot on the 17th hole and ended the second round with an even-par score of 72. Frazier enters Tuesday's final round tied for 21st place with a two-round score of four-over-par 148.

Jackie Lindsey finished the second round with a five-over-par total of 149 after shooting an even-par 72 in the second round.

Houston's other two players, Pablo Acuña and Ricky Romano, are tied for 37th place with an eight-over-par score of 152 after both players shot a six-over par 78 in the second round.

 

 

Tulsa enters the final round as the only team in the tournament to shoot under par during both rounds and have a six-under-par score of 570 after shooting three-under-par each day. The Golden Hurricane have a 14-stroke lead over second-place UAB after the Blazers ended the second day with an eight-over-par score of 584. Houston is in third place two shots back of the Blazers and one shot ahead of both UCF and Southern Miss.

SMU is tied with Memphis and UTEP for sixth place with a 12-over-par score of 588. Marshall (593) is in ninth place, while East Carolina (604) and Rice (605) round out the field.

In addition to Irwin and Henry, the other individual leaders include Tulsa's Brett Myers, who is in third place with a three-under-par score of 141. UAB's Garrett Osborn and Christian Brand of Marshall are tied for fourth place at two-under-par, while Ian Rochester of Memphis is in sixth-place with a one-under par 143. Sam Korbe of Tulsa is in seven-place with an even-par 144. Brad Benjamin of Memphis, and Southern Mississippi teammates Joel Myrick and Kyle Ramey, along with UTEP's Roger Sloan and UAB's Brad Smith are in a five-way tie for eighth place at one-over-par.
