Cross Country Men Place Fourth At Texas A&M Invitational
Sept. 23, 2007
HOUSTON - Senior Stephen Magness led the University of Houston cross country team to a fourth place finish after running a top-five finish at the Texas A&M Invitational yesterday, Sept. 22 in College Station, Texas. The women had a ninth place finish with senior Oumama Hallal out front for the Cougars placing 29th overall. Magness ran a 24:27 to place fourth overall with Daniel Martinez coming in 18th in a 25:32 time and Ahmed Harb following shortly behind in 23rd 25:52 finish. "Our guys really stepped forward in this meet," head coach Ryan Turner said. "We've got a lot of stuff accomplished since our first race this season. We defeated Sam Houston State, who is currently ranked ninth in the region and TCU who beat us at Baylor. We've come a long way since Baylor and I know we'll just keep improving." Hallal led the women with a 19:15 time to finish 29th. Jessica Cook 19:53 for a 47th finish, and Kelcee Keenann, 20:03 for a 53rd place finish, followed behind her to complete the top-three runners for the Houston women. "We're going to start focusing on the women," Turner said, "and how we can get them up with the men. I know they're capable of it; it's just a matter of how to train them to get there. They have the ability, we just need to get them to use it." The team will be back in action next weekend at the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islander Classic held Sept. 28. After Magness' top-five finish, he was snagged by cameramen for an online interview. Click here to see the complete interview.
