Crusaders fall to the Friars

Sept. 12, 2004

Providence, R.I. - The Holy Cross women's soccer team was defeated by Providence College , 1-2, Sunday afternoon.

The Crusaders were led by a tandem of sophomores, Lauren Pereira (Ludlow, Mass.) and Meredith Davis (Worcester, Mass.) . Pereira scored on a pass from Davis at the 20:52 mark in the first half.

Keeper Jessica Pietrowicz (Worcester, Mass.) registered a second half shutout as she stopped seven Providence shots.

The Friars were led by seniors BriAnne Bruni and Lauren Ritchie who both netted a goal each. Bruni's goal at 6:16 put Providence on the board first, while Ritchie shot the game-winning-goal with just 2:30 remaining in the first half.

Seniors Mary Jones (Merrimac, Mass.) and Danielle Carvalho (Cheshire, Conn.) each registered a shot-on-goal for Holy Cross.

The Crusaders return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 14 when they travel to New Rochelle , N.Y. to take on Iona at 3 p.m. The team's next home game is slated for Saturday, Sept. 25 against Patriot League rival American at 1 p.m.
