Holy Cross Falls to Colgate, 2-1

Sept. 25, 2004

Hamilton, N.Y. - The Holy Cross field hockey team opened up its Patriot League schedule with a 2-1 loss to Colgate University on Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders drop to 5-2 on the season, 0-1 in Patriot League play, while the Raiders improve to 6-3, 1-0. Ashley Schneider scored both Raider goals, the first coming just 56 seconds into the game giving the home team an early 1-0 lead. The score remained 1-0 at the half, but Schneider struck again 33 seconds into the second half to give Colgate a 2-0 cushion.

Holy Cross sophomore Tara Welch (New Boston, N.H.) pulled the Crusaders within one on an unassisted tally with just under three minutes remaining in the game, but that was as close as the Crusaders would get.

Holy Cross outshot Colgate 23-21, and held a 19-6 advantage on penalty corners, but were unable to further capitalize.

Colgate goalkeeper Jacque DeMarco made 9 saves on the day for the victory. Sony Kuhn faced 16 shots, turning back 14.

Holy Cross will host Boston College in a non-conference game on Wednesday night at the Hart Astro Turf. Game time is 7pm.
