Holy Cross Field Hockey Falls To Bucknell In Overtime

Oct. 15, 2005

Box Score

Lewisburg, Pa. - The Bucknell University field hockey team overcame a 2-0 deficit and battled back to defeat Holy Cross, 3-2, in overtime on Saturday afternoon at Graham Field. Holy Cross falls to 7-7 overall (2-1 Patriot League), while the Bison improve to 5-8 (2-1 Patriot League) on the season.

The Crusaders took an early 1-0 lead when Tara Welch (New Boston, N.H.) received a pass from Lauren Coletta (Mendon, Mass.) and found an open Bison net, just under 10 minutes into the game. Holy Cross then took a 2-0 lead just 40 seconds later after Coletta scored on a pass from Jenna Cook (Walpole, Mass.).

But the Bison fought back and evened the score at 2-2 going into halftime. Amanda Faust cut the deficit to one (2-1) when she tallied a goal off a penalty corner, with assists from juniors Anne Lutz and Alex Kyzmir at the 14:53 mark. Katie Urosevich then scored with just under five minutes left in the first stanza to tie the game at two apiece.

The two teams played a scoreless second half, sending the game into overtime.

Just 9:05 into the sudden death period, the Bison then scored the game-winner when Faust blasted a shot off of a penalty corner and found the back of the net to win.

Holy Cross goalkeeper Sony Kuhn (Cincinnati, Ohio) made 10 saves on the day, while Bucknell's Liz Jordan finished with 14 stops for the Bison. The Crusaders held a slight 29-24 shot advantage. Bucknell had a 10-8 penalty corner edge.

Holy Cross is back at it again tomorrow, when they travel to Albany, N.Y., for a 1:00 p.m. match-up with the Great Danes.
