Week No. 6 PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Oct. 8, 2006

Elmhurst, Ill. -

Special teams and defense keyed Great West teams this weekend as South Dakota State and Cal Poly rode those two areas to victories on Saturday. Linebacker Andrew Hoogeveen, who had 10 tackles, including a sack, as South Dakota State defeated a 4-1 Central Arkansas team, 20-7, earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, announced by the league office today. Linebacker Wes Pryor blocked a punt that resulted in a safely to spark Cal Poly's come from behind win over UC Davis and was named Special Teams Player of the Week. Southern Utah running back Johnny Sanchez had the school's best rushing day in four years to earn Great West Offensive Player of the Week honors, but the Thurnderbirds dropped a tight 30-27 decision.
