GU Women’s Volleyball Team Falls 3-0 to Notre Dame
October 30, 2004 WASHINGTON, DC – The Georgetown University women’s volleyball team fell 3-0 (30-24, 30-23, 30-22) to Notre Dame University on Saturday, October 30, at McDonough Gym in BIG EAST action. The loss drops the Hoyas’ overall record to 13-11 and 1-5 in BIG EAST play, while the Fighting Irish improve to 13-5 overall and 5-0 in league competition. Sara Albert (Sr., Davis, Calif./Davis) and Ashley Lancaster (Jr., Huntsville, Ala./Huntsville) tallied double figures to lead the GU effort. Albert tallied a match-high 14 kills and a red-hot .722 hitting percentage (14 kills with just one error in 18 attempts). She also added 11 digs. Lancaster turned in a double-double performance of a 14 digs, a match-high, and 13 kills. Lauren Kelbley led the Irish with 12 kills, while Emily Loomis and Adrianna Stasiuk added 11 kills each for the Notre Dame win. The Fighting Irish had their block working on the night. Notre Dame not only bested the Hoyas in blocks (10-3), but also in hitting percentage (.339 to .264) and aces (6-3). Kate Fisher (Fr., Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo) handed out a team-high 26 assists. Margaret Vernon (Sr., Denver, Colo./Kent Denver School) shared setting duties with Fisher and added 15 assists and four digs. Katie Nulty (Fr., Santa Barbara, Calif./Laguna Blanca), playing in the libero’s spot, registered 11 digs; Annie Connor (Jr., Los Altos, Calif./St. Francis) tallied seven kills and four digs; and Patty Carroll (Fr., Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) six kills and five digs. Jenny Weed (Jr., Salt Lake City, Utah/Utah Valley College) had four kills, and Jessica George (Jr., Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) three. The Hoyas return to action tomorrow, Sunday, October 31, when they play host to BIG EAST rival Syracuse at McDonough Gym at 2:00 p.m. |
