Hoya Women Win Cavalier Open Cross Country Meet; Men Take Second
11/13/2002 Charlottesville, VA - The Georgetown men and women’s cross country teams rested its top runners, however, a small group of Hoyas traveled to Charlottesville, Va., to compete in the Cavalier Open, hosted by the University of Virginia on Saturday, November 9. GU won the women’s race while the men earned runner-up honors. Georgetown, running against Virginia, Duke and James Madison, had six women finish in the top 20 to seal victory for the Hoyas with 21 points. UVA finished second with 36 points, while Duke and James Madison participated without a team score. Junior Colleen Kelly (Maple Glen, Pa./Mount St. Joseph Academy) led the Hoyas with a time of 22:05.70, good for eighth place. One spot back was junior Diana Clock (San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco Univ. H.S.), who finished in ninth place in 22:09.50. Also finishing in the top 20 were junior Rose Wetzel (Seattle, Wash./Blanchet), who was 13th in 22:52.30 while senior Allison Snyder (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) garnered 17th place 23:13.20. Freshman Kim Malcolm (West Chester, Penn./Villa Maria Academy) claimed 19th place in 23:26.30, and freshman Erin Henry (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock) was 20th in 23:21.00. The men, led by junior Felix Chrobog (Washington, DC/St. Alban’s), placed second overall with a combined time of 2:12:04.70. William and Mary finished first in the meet, while Virginia and James Madison were behind the Hoyas in third and fourth place, respectively. Chrobog posted the best individual performance of the meet, finishing with a winning time of 25:48.90. The next GU finishers across the finish line were junior Patrick Lenaghan (Spring Lake, N.J./Christian Brothers), who finished in seventh place with a time of 26:25.50, and freshman John Connolly (Portland, Ore./Jesuit), who placed eighth with a time of 26:26.80. Sophomore Nat Glackin (Red Bank, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) added a 13th-place finish with a mark of 26:44.50. Junior David Swift (Marietta, Ga./Marietta) rounded out the Hoya point scorers with his 15th place time of 26:49.00. |
