GU Women Compete at Father Diamond and Rutgers Invitational Indoor Track & Field Meets

1/13/2003

The Georgetown University women’s track & field team split up to compete in two meets on Saturday, January 11.  One group stayed closer to home to participate in the 22-team Father Diamond Invitational at George Mason University, while another made a trip to Piscataway, N.J., to compete in the Rutgers Invitational with four other schools. The Hoyas posted solid finishes at both meets, which were based on individual competition rather than team scoring.

Emily Reaman (Sr., Chevy Chase, Md./Georgetown Visitation) was the lone winner on the day at the Father Diamond Invitational at George Mason.  Reaman easily won the 3000-meter run in 10:09.43.  Alicia Valtin of Campbell University was a distant second in 10:21.48.

Rose Wetzel (Jr., Seattle, Wash./Blanchet) ran to a third-place finish in the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:57.22.  Campbell’s Heather Lee won the event in 2:25.09.

Kori Hamilton (Jr., Glendora, Calif./St. Lucy’s Priory), Treniere Clement (Jr., Stow, Ohio/Stow-Monroe Falls) and Jamillah Bowman (Sr., Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) returned to the Hilltop with fourth-place finishes from the GMU meet.  Hamilton recorded 56.57 seconds in the 400-meter dash, while Clement registered 4:47.30 in the mile run and Bowman clocked 1:13.80 in the 500-meters.  South Carolina’s Leshinda Demus was the winner of the 400 (55.01); former GU standout, Katrina de Boer was the victor of the mile (4:44.76); and Demetra Washington of South Carolina was triumphant in the 500 (1:11.34).

GU’s two relay entries earned runner-up honors in Fairfax.  Monica Hargrove (Jr., New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse), Hamilton, Bowman and Danielle Rodgers (Yeadon, Penn./Penn Wood) teamed up in the 4 x 400-meter relay to finish in 3:45.37.  South Carolina won the event in 3:43.43.  Clement, Sicher, Wetzel and Reaman made up the Hoyas’ 4 x 800-meter squad.  An unattached team turned in the winning time of 8:49.91, with GU in second in 9:09.47.

Georgetown’s top finisher at Rutgers was freshman Sabine Knothe (Dortmund, Germany/Mallinckrodt Gymnasium).  Knothe’s time of 2:21.6 was good for first place in the 800-meter run.  Knothe also picked up a fifth-place finish in the mile (5:11.3).  Lori-Ann Gregory (Sr., Towson, Md./Towson) was second in the 800 with a mark of 2:22.1.

Jodee Adams-Moore (So., Bellevue, Wash./Newport) and Dionne Jordan came away from the Rutgers’ meet with two second-place finishes.  She ran 4:58.6 in the mile and 9:55.1 in the 3000-meters.  Jen Rhines of New Haven won both the mile (4:50.2) and the 3000 (9:30.6).  Jordan took second in the 400 with a time of 61.6 seconds; and second in the 55-meter dash in 8.3 seconds.

Meghan O’Neil (Fr., Phoenixville, Penn./Spring Ford) earned runner-up honors in the 1000-meter run with a mark of 2:55.6, while Colleen Kelly (Jr., Maple Glen, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) was third in the 1000 with a 3:01.9 mark and Kim Malcolm (Fr., West Chester, Penn./Villa Maria Academy) fifth in 3:06.3. Kelly also ran the mile.  She placed third with a time of 5:11.3.  Malcolm was close behind in sixth place in 5:13.9.
