Georgetown's Maggie Koch IWLCA Division I Goalie of the Year
June 12, 2006 Washington, D.C. - Maggie Koch (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside School), a junior goalie on the Georgetown University women's lacrosse team, was honored Saturday with the C. Markland Kelly Award as Division I Goalie of the Year. Koch received her award at the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA)/US Lacrosse All-American Banquet on June 10. Koch, was also named BIG EAST Conference Defensive Player of the Year in mid-May. Koch led the nation with .564 save percentage and ranked second nationally allowing just 6.8 goals per game. Koch was the last line of the Hoya defense that ranked second in the country in scoring defense (7.0 gpg). A Tewaaraton Trophy nominee, Koch recorded double-figure saves in eight games. Koch earned IWLCA All-America honors in 2006 after making 167 saves and averaging just under 10 saves per contest. "Maggie increased her level of play tremendously this season and played a major role in our success during the 2006 season," said Hoya head coach Ricky Fried. Georgetown posted a 14-4 overall record in 2006, winning their sixth straight BIG EAST title and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the eighth straight season. Koch is the third Hoya goalkeeper to earn the award following Chris Lindsey in 1998 and Bowen Holden in 2001. Heather Chaapel of Nazareth College earned the award for Division III while Allyson Murphy of Adelphi won
award for the Division II level.
