Aug. 29, 2005

Box Score

WASHINGTON, DC - Georgetown University field hockey (0-1-0) fell to BIG EAST opponent Villanova (1-0-0) in the season opener on Kehoe Field by a score of 7-1.

The Wildcats came out quickly when Natalie Balthrop scored early in the first half. Georgetown freshman Katie Lachman (Bryn Mawr, PA) shot back with help from fellow freshman, Maggie Farrand (Baltimore, MD) to even up the score in the tenth minute of play. Shortly after, Villanova went on a scoring frenzy ending the half with a 5-1 lead.

Georgetown came out more aggressive in the second half, doubling the shots taken by the team. Unfortunately, the Hoyas could not rally back and lost the game with a final score of 7-1.

Several Hoya freshmen played their first minutes today including starter Lachman, Ashton Hospodar (St. Davis, PA) and goalkeeper Deirdre Crovo (Millersville, MD).

The Hoyas return to action on the road this Saturday, September 3 against Radford at 1 p.m.
