Women's Basketball Falls to Providence, 59-55, in BIG EAST Opener

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's basketball team defeated Georgetown University, 59-55, in BIG EAST Conference action, on Wednesday night in Providence, Rhode Island.

Senior guard Chrissy Vozab and freshman forward Jessica Simmonds led the Friars with 12 points each. Graduate student Dani Trippany registered her third double-double of the season, with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Trippany also registered a team-high three assists and two blocked shots.

The Hoyas were paced by forward Nok Duany (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington High), who scored a game-high 13 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Forward Lesley Walker (Silver Spring, Md./Wheaton) tallied 12 points and seven boards to go along with a game-high five assists and three steals. Center Zsuzsanna Horvath (Budapest, Hungary/ELTE Trefort Agoston (Central Fla. C.C.)) and forward Santia Jackson (Chicago, Ill./The Latin School) scored 11 points and 10 points, respectively.

The Friars led, 27-17, at halftime, before being out-scored, 38-32, in the second half. Georgetown's Mary Lisicky (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) nailed a three pointer, with 56 seconds remaining in the game to give Georgetown a one-point lead, at 55-54. Lisicky's basket proved to be the final points of the game for Georgetown, as Providence outscored the Hoyas 5-0 in the final 37-seconds of the game.

Georgetown falls to 8-4 overall, and 0-1 in BIG EAST action. The Hoyas return home to McDonough Arena on Saturday, January 5 when they take on Pittsburgh at 2 p.m.
