GU Men Place Fifth at 2002 NCAA Pre-National Cross Country Meet

Terre Haute, Ind. – The seventh-ranked Georgetown University men’s cross country team picked up a fifth-place finish at the 2002 NCAA Pre-National Meet, held Saturday, October 19, at Indiana State University. The Hoyas scored 197 points to claim the fifth spot in the men’s white team race. Colorado won the meet with 87 points, easily outdistancing runner-up Iona with 125 points. Central Michigan garnered third place with 14meet with 87 points, easily outdistancing runner-up Iona with 125 points. Central Michigan garnered third place with 148 points, and Weber State was fourth with 187. Sophomore Rod Koborsi (Houston, Texas/Jersey Village) was the top finisher for the Hoyas on the day. Koborsi clocked 24:14.5 to earn seventh place. Senior Mike Smith (Princeton, Mass./Wachusett) turned in a 12th-place finish in the 8000-meter race in 24:22.4, and senior Javon Broderick (Seattle, Wash/O’Dea) was 29th in 24:38.6. Dylan Welsh (Sr., Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs Senior) was the fourth Hoya across the finish line. Welsh recorded 25:03.8 for 71st place. Fleet Hower (Fr., Marion, Va./Marion) was rounded out Georgetown’s point scorers. Hower’s time of 25:06.8 was good for 78th place. Colorado’s Jorge Torres won the men’s blue race in 23:34.8.
