No. 2 GU Women & No. 8 Hoya Men to Compete at Great American Cross Country Festival
9/27/2002 Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women’s cross country team retained its second place national ranking in the latest FinishLynx Women’s Cross Country Rankings released September 24. The GU men moved up a spot from ninth place to eighth in the MONDO Men’s Cross Country Rankings, also released on September 24. The first nine spots remained unchanged in the FinishLynx women’s poll, as Brigham Young maintained its first-place hold with 390 points, followed by the Hoyas with 376 points. Stanford claimed third place with 360 points, Colorado was fourth with 348 points, and Notre Dame fifth with 337 points. Stanford is ranked first in the MONDO men’s poll with 442 points, with Arkansas in second place with 431 points. Colorado occupies the third spot with 423 points; Wisconsin is fourth with 402, and Northern Arizona fifth with 392. Georgetown will split up to take part in two meets this weekend. The top seven runners on both the men’s and women’s teams will compete at the Great American Cross Country Festival in Charlotte, N.C. on Friday, September 28. The women’s field will feature some of the top teams in the country, including defending national champion and No. 1 ranked Brigham Young University. In addition to BYU, No. 2 North Carolina State, No. 7 Arkansas, No. 8 Duke and No. 11 Northern Arizona will line up in the 52-team competition. The men’s race will feature No. 5 Northern Arizona, No. 7 N.C. State and No. 17 Duke. Results from the race will be available at www.dyestat.com. Another group of Hoyas will participate in the George Washington Invitational on Saturday, September 28, at Bull Run Park. Nineteen local teams will participate, including James Madison, George Mason and Virginia. The women’s 3K race will begin at 9:30 a.m., while the men’s 8K will start at 10:30 a.m. |
