Mason Qualifies for World Junior Championships with a Second Place Finish in the Steeplechase

Washington, D.C. - Rising sophomore Alex Mason (Scottsdale, Ariz./Brophy Prep) continued the strong run for the Georgetown track & field program at the 2006 Finish Line USA Junior Track & Field Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. on Thursday with a second place finish in the men's 3000m steeplechase.

Mason, who crossed in 9:13.97, qualifies for the 2006 IAAF World Outdoor Championships in Beijing, China on August 15-20, joining classmates Andrew Bumbalough (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood Academy) and Natasha LaBeaud (Folsom, Calif./Folsom) who advanced with victories in their respective 5000m races yesterday.

Buky Bamigboye (Brentwood, Tenn./University School) concluded action in the Heptathlon on Thursday, moving up one place to third. She had a strong afternoon, finishing with 5,326 points for the two day event. Bamigboye began by setting a new personal record and placing second in the long jump with a distance of 19'5.5" (5.93m). After a ninth place showing in the javelin (108'9"/33.14m), she finished the day by winning the 800m in a time of 2:16.90.

In the Senior Outdoor Nationals, assistant coach Monica Hargrove advanced to Friday's semifinals in the 800m. She was 11th overall with a time of 52.11 to move onto tomorrow's round which is set for 6:45 p.m.

Due to rain in the Indianapolis area, Rod Koborsi's 10,000m and Treniere Clement's 1500m race were both postponed. Koborsi will now take the track on Friday at 9:05 p.m.
