Jordan Wins Deciding Match Against Maryland
Ken Jordan’s (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) deciding point gave the Georgetown men’s tennis team a victory over Maryland on Sunday, February 18. After a linesman overruled the match point in favor of Jordan, Georgetown won by a final team score of 4-3. The final tally of the #6 singles match saw Jordan edge Dan Kenshalo by a score of 6-4, 7-5.At the #5 singles spot, Mike Nelson (Trinidad & Tobago/Port-of-Spain) netted his first victory as a Georgetown Hoya with a win over Larry Chou, 6-4, 6-2. The Hoyas added two other wins in the singles competition to earn the dual match victory. At #2 singles, Marc Lohser (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) defeated Jon Neeter, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3, while Dennis Cravedi (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) beat Luan Nguyen by a score of 7-5, 7-5. The Hoya men only saw two losses in singles competition. At #1 singles, Nick Sklavounos (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) fell to Chris Chui, 6-4, 6-1, while Andre Benjamin (New York, N.Y./Fieldston) lost to Jon Murchison, 6-1, 6-4. In doubles competition, the duo of Lohser and Cravedi handled Neeter and Kenshalo at the #2 spot, winning easily by a score of 8-2. However, the doubles point went to the Terrapins after their victories at #1 and #3. Sklavanous and Nelson lost 8-3 at #1 while Benjamin and Christopher Belelieu (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) were defeated 8-5 at #3. The Hoyas stand at 4-6 on the 2000-01 season and their next match comes at 12 noon on Sunday, February 25, when they will face Howard at home.
