Men's Tennis Falls Short in a Pair of Weekend Matches

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown men's tennis team lost to BIG EAST foe Rutgers, 5-2, on Saturday, March 25 and lost a home bout against Duquesne, 4-3, on Sunday, March 26 to drop a pair of weekend matches. The Hoyas are now 3-7 on the year and 2-2 in league play.
Against Rutgers, junior Bert Baggio (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) won the lone singles match with a score of 6-3, 6-2 in the sixth singles flight.
Junior Kevin Killeavy (Indian Harbor Beach, Fla./Melbourne Central Catholic) and freshman Kevin Walsh (Bernardsville, N.J./Delbarton) won their singles matches against Duquesne with 6-1, 6-4 (fifth singles flight) and 6-2, 6-1 (sixth singles flight) decisions, respectively.
The sophomore duo of Etienne Paris (Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades) and Theodore Tywang (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell Academy) proved to be unbeatable in the weekend matches as they outlasted the Rutgers team in the second doubles flight by a score of 9-8 (4) and defeated the Dukes, 8-4.
The pairing of sophomore Andrew Clayton (Salt Lake City, Utah/Rowland Hall - St. Mark's) and freshman Kenneth Wong (Repulse Bay, Hong Kong/St. Paul's [N.H.]) defeated the Rutgers team with a score of 8-6 in the third doubles flight and took an 8-5 decision over the Duquesne pair.
The Hoyas return to the court when they host Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday, March 29 at the McDonough Tennis Complex. The match is slated for 2:30 p.m.
