Georgetown Swimming & Diving Teams defeat Howard
December 3, 2001 The Georgetown University men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up the Fall 2001 season with a win over Howard University on Saturday, December 1. The women led by as much as 50 points during the meet, eventually defeating the Sharks 125-68, while GU's men won 122-84. In the men's action, junior Jim McLaughlin (Plantsville, Conn./Southington) took first place in the 1000 freestyle (10:05.96) and the 500 freestyle (4:54.08). Junior Bryan Evangelista (Northport, N.Y./St. Anthony's) won both the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly with times of 1:49.62 and 53.34, respectively. Senior Chris Lengle (Arlington, Va./Washington and Lee) and freshman Stephen Ferguson (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) also swept both their races, with Lengle finishing in 48.54 in the 100 Freestyle and Ferguson finishing with a time of 2:06.56 in the 200 IM. The 400 Medley Relay team of Matt O'Connor (Phoenix, Ariz./Phoenix Country Day), Will Miller (Farmingdale, N.J./Freehold), Evangelista and Lengle also swam a good race, finishing in first place with a time of 3:39.07. Georgetown men's and women's swimming and diving will be in action again on January 12 when they travel to Duquesne for a dual meet at 2 p.m. |
