April 13, 2007 Washington, D.C. - Three of the four Georgetown University crews will take to the water this weekend as the lightweight men's, lightweight women's, and heavyweight women's teams will all be in action. While the lightweight men's and heavyweight women's crews will remain in the area for head-to-head racing on the Potomac, the women's lightweight crews will travel north to compete for the Knecht Cup in Cherry Hill, N.J. On Saturday, April 14, the lightweight men's crews will race in a head-to-head meet against Navy. Last week, Navy finished fifth in the George Washington Invitational Regatta while Georgetown finished third. However, Georgetown and Navy never had their men's boats race against each other in any event. Also on Saturday, the women's lightweight crews will compete for the Knecht Cup on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J. The two-day event which will continue on Sunday, April 15, is hosted by Villanova University. This year's regatta, the seventh installment, will provide competition for over 50 schools from California to Maine, Wisconsin to Florida. The women's heavyweight crews will also be competing on Sunday, April 15, as they take on George Washington on the Potomac for the Class of 1998 Cup. Last week, GW's crews finished first in the George Washington Invitational Regatta and won the Gilbert H. Hood Jr. Point Trophy. The schools went against each other in one event, the Varsity 4, with the GW boat finishing second and the Georgetown boat third in the three-team race.
