Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University baseball team was shutout on Saturday afternoon, losing 6-0 at Owen T. Carroll Field in South Orange, N.J. to BIG EAST foe, Seton Hall. After losing two nail-biters on Thursday, the Hoyas (12-20, 2-7 BE) were able to muster only one hit in today's game and were swept by the Pirates (12-14, 4-5 BE). Seton Hall lefthander Dan Merklinger came within three outs of no-hitting the Hoyas, but senior Mark McLaughlin (Walnut Creek, Calif./De La Salle) singled up the middle to lead off the ninth inning to break it up. Sophomore starter Jimmy Saris (Great Falls, Va./Langley) lasted six innings and allowed five runs on five hits while striking out six batters. Freshman Cary Piligian (Troy, Mich./Detroit Jesuit) and junior Daniel Kennedy (West Orange, N.J./Regis) closed it out for GU, as Piligian worked a scoreless seventh and Kennedy pitched the eighth. Georgetown will now travel to Fairfax, Va. on Tuesday to complete a home-and-home series with George Mason. This will be the second game in eight days between the two schools as George Mason won the first game at Shirley Povich Field, 12-7. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Raymond H. "Hap" Spuhler Field.
