Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown swimming and diving program picked up its first win of the 2007-08 season on Saturday at the Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium in South Orange, N.J. when they swam against BIG EAST Conference opponent Seton Hall and non-league opponents Loyola (Md.) and Lafayette. For the men, they defeated Lafayette, 151-140 and suffered losses to Loyola (Md.) (195-96) and Seton Hall (192-99). On the women's side, the Hoyas defeated Loyola (Md.), 159.5-139.5 but lost to Lafayette (184-115) and Seton Hall (177-122). The men are now 1-5 with a 0-2 mark in BIG EAST Conference action while the women are now 1-6 overall and carry a 0-2 slate in league action. The men's win over Lafayette breaks a winless streak for the Blue and Gray that dated back to February 4, 2006 - that win was also over the Leopards. The Hoyas added five postseason qualifiers to the mix during the meet. For the men, freshman Thomas Graham (Washington, D.C./St. Albans) recorded a BIG EAST qualifying time in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.27, also a freshman record. Junior Goran Bistric (Saugus, Calif./William S. Hart) was the lone Hoya to take top honors in an event as he won the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:56.83. Sophomore Wes Going (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University High) finished third in the event with a time of 2:00.60 with classmate James LiVolsi (Scotch Plains, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) close behind with a time of 2:00.68, enough to qualify him for the BIG EAST Conference Championships. Bistric and Going had previously qualified in this event. On the women's side, Laura Stark (Martinsville, N.J./Mount St. Mary Academy) recorded a BIG EAST qualifying time in the 200 breaststroke with a tie of 2:30.33, enough for the sophomore to take second in the event. Senior Caitlin Colling (Monson, Mass./Monson) made a BIG EAST and an ECAC cut time in the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.26, but went on to record a faster time as she swam the lead off in the 400 freestyle relay, recording a time of 54.05. In the 200 butterfly, freshman Alison Christie (Edison, N.J./Mount St. Mary Academy) finished third with a time of 2:13.41. The time falls under the BE cut time, however, Christie already qualified for the event in a previous meet. It does rank Christie seventh on the all-time top-10 list at Georgetown and is also a new freshman record in the event. The Blue and Gray will take a weekend off and continue the season with the Patriot Invitational. The three-day event starts on Friday, November 16 and extends through Sunday, November 18. The competition will take place in the Jim McKay Natatorium inside of the Aquatic and Fitness center on host school, George Mason's campus in Fairfax, Va.
