Grand Valley State's women's cross country team took eighth place in the Stegemoller Classic Pre-National Meet hosted by the University Southern Indiana in Evansville, Ind. The Lakers tallied 224 points, while Tennessee Chattanooga won the meet with 34 points.
Finishing first for GVSU was freshman Rossana Champman, who took 36th place overall with a time of 24:28. Freshman Samantha Gordon finished in 39th place (24:37), while freshman Stephanie Kandas took 53rd with a time of 25:01. Freshman Rachel White finished with a time of 25:10, freshman Maggie Grube took 61st with a time of 25:16, and freshman Elyse Erber ran a 25:19. Senior Amber Sebasta ran a 25:32, while freshman Pam Friday finished right behind in 72nd place with a time of 25:33. Junior Jaquelyn Taylor ran a 25:38 and senior Rae Russell finished with a time of 25:44. Senior Karmen Schmidt ran a 27:35 and senior Nikki Zamira finished with a time of 28:37.
Grand Valley will compete in the Loyola-Lakefront Invite in Chicago, Ill. on Oct. 2 at 10:00 a.m.
