Grand Valley State defeated Lewis, 3-1 (30-22, 30-18, 30-32, 30-28) in the quarterfinals of the Great Lakes Region Tournament on Thursday afternoon. GVSU improves to 27-3 overall, while Lewis concludes their season with a 25-6 overall record. The Lakers will play SIU Edwardsville (28-5) in the first semifinal match on Friday, Nov. 10 at 5:00 p.m.
Lewis jumped out to a three point lead (8-5) early in game one, but GVSU came back to take a commanding 20-14 lead. Lewis closed the gap to four points, 23-19, but then the Lakers went on a 4-0 run to take a 27-19 lead. GVSU scored the next three out of five points to win game one, 30-22.
In game two, GVSU posted an early eight point lead, 16-8. The Lakers held on to the lead at 20-13 and then scored the next five points to push their lead to 25-13. GVSU closed out game two with a 30-18 win.
Game three went back and forth, but Grand Valley had the lead most of the game. Lewis came back to tie the game at 21-21 and then went on to take a 24-21 lead. The Lakers fought back to take a lead of their own, 28-26, but couldn't close out the match. Lewis tied the game at 30-30 and then recorded to straight kills to win the game, 32-30.
Both teams battled back and forth in game four as well, recording numerous ties and lead changes. The teams were tied at 24-24 before GVSU went a three point run to take a 27-24 lead. The Flyers cut the lead to one point, 28-27, but a Meghan Moore kill gave the Lakers a 29-27 edge. Lewis scored the next point to trail by just one point, but GVSU closed out the game and match with a kill by Jamie Ashmore to take the 30-28 win.

GVSU tallied 23 more kills, three more aces, and six more blocks than Lewis. The Lakers hit .267 in the match, while the Flyers hit just .094.
