Results

Grand Valley State's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams both had solid performances at the Grand Rapids Open on Saturday. The Lakers will compete at the Tennessee Sea Ray Relays and the Ferris State Invite this week.

For the women, sophomore April Szatkowski tallied a second place finish in both the 100 meter (12.58) and 200 meter dash (26.50). Freshman Katie Mandziara won the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:02.30, while teammate Nicole Kueny took second place with a time of 1:03.70. Senior Jeannette Seckinger placed first in the 3000 meter run (10:55.10) and freshman Lauren Bader finished second with a time of 10:56. Senior Steph Sliwinski finished fourth in the 5000 meter run (18:45.20), Alex Baker took second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.45, and Jennifer O'Shesky took third in the 100 meter hurdles (15.69).

Senior Heather Mergener took second in the 400 meter hurdles (1:10.52) and Leanna Lowe won the triple jump with a score of 9.74m. Grand Valley State's 4x100 meter relay team took first with a time of 48.82.

On the men's side, Kenny Coleman took second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.05, while Mike Stowe finished third in the 110 meter hurdles (15.62). In the field events, junior Kirk Manchip and sophomore Ryan Tibble tied for first in the high jump with a jump of 6'6". Freshman Bryan Dovichi tied for first in the long jump with a score of 6.45m, while Joe Prouix finished second in the shot put (15.96). Mike Simon tallied a second a second place finish in the discus throw (47.18), while Ian Morrison took third (47.16). Sophomore Kevin Kimpel won the javelin with a throw of 47.94.
