Results

Grand Valley State women's tennis team competed in the 2006 Wilson/ITA Great Lakes Women's Division II Championship hosted by Northwood University on Friday. Competition will continue on Saturday, Sept. 16 and Sunday, Sept. 17. The Lakers will return home to host Ashland University on Friday, Sept. 22 at 3:00 p.m. and Mercyhurst on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 10:00 a.m.

In the top half of the singles draw bracket, junior Emily Zellner won her first match against Alex Chiakumakis of Lake Superior State, 6-2, 6-0. Zellner was then knocked out as she fell to Drury's Thu Ha Mai, 7-6(4), 6-3. Freshman Monte McCall defeated Megan Smith from Lake Superior State, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0(8), but then fell, 6-2, 6-2, to Jennifer Daly from Mercyhurst. Junior Jenna Killips beat Aly Neidlinger (Indianapolis), 6-2, 6-0 and then fell to Amanda Pressotto from Wayne State, 7-5, 6-4.

In the bottom half of the singles draw bracket, freshman Whitney Bindus dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to #16 Kandice Belanger from Rockhurst. Sophomore Lindsay Grimmer, who was seeded #12, knocked off Collette Cabot from Wayne State, 7-5, 6-2. Grimmer then fell, 6-4, 7-5, to Ann Grant of Ferris State. Sophomore Jaime Oppenlander lost to Monica Penon from Bellarmine, 7-5, 6-1.

In doubles action, Koopsen and Monte fell, 9-8(7) to Oliveros/Palmgren of Michigan Tech, while Killips and Oppenlander dropped an 8-3 decision to Hanna/Kuruvilla from Rockhurst. #6-seeded Lindsay Grimmer and Emily Zellner defeated Kromer/Oliveira from Northwood, 8-5. Grimmer and Zellner then knocked off Adams and Grondin (Lake Superior State), 8-4. Grimmer and Zellner will continue play on Saturday against Sabri/Tryboi from Drury.
