Box Score

Grand Valley State dropped a 5-3 decision to Gannon on Saturday in the GLIAC Tournament held at Emerson Park in Midland, Mich. The Lakers fall to 31-14, while the Golden Knights improve to 35-13 overall. GVSU will play Wayne State at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday. If GVSU wins, they advance to the championship game on Sunday, but if they lose, its quest at back-to-back GLIAC Tournament titles would be over.

Grand Valley State jumped out on top, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. The game started as freshman right fielder Rachel Plummer reached base on an error by the third baseman. She moved to second one out later on a single by junior second baseman Kristin Moleski. The runners moved to second and third base on a passed ball by the catcher and then senior first baseman Crista Buresh walked to load the bases. Junior designated player Elizabeth Smith singled to center field and advanced to second base on a fielding error by the center fielder. Two runs scored on the play to put the Lakers up 2-0. Junior center fielder Lisa Preuss drove in the third run of the inning on a double to right center field.

Gannon came back and tied the game at 3-3 on a three run home run in the bottom of the third inning. The Golden Knights added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to seal the 5-3 win.

Grand Valley outhit Gannon, 9-5, but left 10 runners stranded on base. Plummer was 2-for-4 with a run scored and Smith went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Buresh was 1-for-2 with a run scored and Preuss had a hit and drove in the other run.

Sophomore Lori Andjelich started for the Lakers, pitching 3.2 innings before leaving the game after getting hit by the ball. She allowed three hits, four walks, and two earned runs, while striking out four. Junior Stephanie Cole recorded the loss (14-7), throwing 2.1 innings.
