Erie, Pa. - Grand Valley State swept a GLIAC doubleheader Sunday (April 27) from Mercyhurst College. GVSU captured the twinbill by scores of 4-0 and 2-1. GVSU, ranked sixth in the latest national poll and first in the NCAA DII Great Lakes Regional poll, improves to 42-4 on the year and 15-1 in GLIAC play.
Jennifer Mackson tossed a one-hit shutout in game one to improve her season record to 23-2. Mackson notched 13 strikeouts with no walks. GVSU scored two runs in the top of the second and two more in the top of the seventh for the win. Tara Marsh was 2-4 with a run scored, while Jen Goldschmeding was 3-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Rachel Blain tallied a pair of hits with one RBI and Bobbi Conner drove in two runs with her two hits.
In game two, Kristen Jenner picked up 15th win of the year, yielding one run on five hits in seven innings or work. Kerri Jonas was 3-3, while Bobbi Conner was 2-3 with a run scored. Tara Marsh collected one hit and an RBI.
Grand Valley State will enter the GLIAC Tournament as the number one seed. The tourney will run Friday (May 2) and Saturday (May 3) in Bay City, Mich.
