Box Score

Grand Valley State split a GLIAC doubleheader at Findlay on Saturday, falling 3-2 in eight innings in game one and winning game two, 8-0 in five innings. The Lakers are now 23-17 overall and 7-7 in GLIAC action. GVSU returns home for two GLIAC doubleheaders, taking on Hillsdale on Friday, April 28 at 3:00 p.m. and Wayne State on Saturday, April 29 beginning at 2:00 p.m.

In game one, the Lakers posted the game's first run, scoring in the top of the third inning. Senior left fielder Shelby Brayton led off the inning with a bunt single and stole second with two outs. She moved to third base on a single to left field by sophomore right fielder Lisa Preuss. Junior first baseman Crista Buresh singled to drive in the first run of the game.

Findlay came back to tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning, but GVSU went up 2-1 as they added a run in the top of the fifth. Preuss singled again and moved to second as Buresh reached on an error by the shortstop. Senior third baseman Denise Ireton singled down the left field line to bring in Preuss.

Findlay scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game and neither team scored in the seventh to force extra innings. The Oilers posted a run in the bottom of the eighth to seal the 3-2 win.

Preuss went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Ireton was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Freshman Lori Andjelich threw the first 5.1 innings of action, allowing five hits, two runs, and three walks, while striking out five. Junior Allison Crews (1-2) suffered the loss, giving up three hits and a run, while tallying one strikeout.

In game, the Lakers jumped out to an early lead, scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning. Freshman shortstop Nichole Woityra singled to started the game and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Preuss. A single by sophomore second baseman Kristin Moleski drove in the Lakers first run. Grand Valley blew the game open by scoring six runs in the bottom of the third inning and added another run in the fourth to seal the 8-0 win.

GVSU recorded nine hits in game two, while the Oilers had just four. Sophomore Stephanie Cole picked up the win, throwing the shutout. She allowed four hits and struck out two batters.

Woityra went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI, while sophomore designated player Sarah Holland also went 2-for-3.
