Grand Valley State swept Mercyhurst in a GLIAC doubleheader at home on Friday afternoon. GVSU won game one, 10-0 in five innings and took game two, 4-0. Grand Valley State improves to 21-13 overall and 5-3 in the GLIAC, while Mercyhurst falls to 12-21 and 1-7. Grand Valley State will host Gannon University in a GLIAC doubleheader on Saturday, April 15 at 1:00 p.m.

Game one was scoreless until GVSU tallied five hits and 10 runs in the fourth inning to blow the game open. Sophomore second baseman Kristin Moleski singled up the middle to start the inning and moved to second on a single to left field by senior third base Denise Ireton. Junior first baseman Crista Buresh reached on an error and the first GVSU run scored. Sophomore designated player Elizabeth Smith hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in the second run of the inning. Senior catcher Megan Smith reached base on a fielder's choice and freshman left fielder Karen Walters was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Freshman shortstop Nichole Woityra walked and the third run scored. DelChiaro was hit by a pitch, scoring Smith. Moleski singled to left field, driving in two runs and Ireton doubled to bring in Moleski. Buresh tripled to right field and scored on an error by the second baseman.

Freshman pitcher Lori Andjelich (9-6) threw all five innings of action, allowing just two hits and striking out five.
 

 

Moleski went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Buresh was 2-for-3 with four RBI and a run scored. Ireton was 2-for-3 wih two runs scored and an RBI.

Grand Valley scored its first run of game two in the top of the second inning as sophomore left fielder Lisa Preuss hit a home run to center field with two outs. GVSU added its second run in the third as senior left fielder Shelby Brayton started off the inning with a bunt single. Two batters later, Marsh reached base on a fielder's choice and then stoled second and third base. She scored on a single by Moleski.

In the fifth inning, sophomore catcher Katie Kring singled and advanced to second base on a bunt by Brayton. The run scored on a stolen base and an error by the catcher. GVSU scored its final run of the game in the seventh inning as Preuss recorded her second home run of the game.

Moleski waws 2-for-2 with an RBI and Preuss was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Sophomore Stephanie Cole picked up her 10th win of the year. She threw all seven innings, allowing seven hits.
