Grand Valley State split a doubleheader with Palm Beach Atlantic in West Palm Beach, Fla. Thursday. The Lakers are 3-7 overall and will conclude their spring trip with a GVSU doubleheader at Friday, March 11 at Warner Southern in Lake Wales, Fla.
GVSU won game one, 7-2, as junior pitcher Kristin Jenner picked up her third win over the season. She allowed six hits and two runs, while striking out eight in six innings of play. Freshman Stephanie Cole threw the final inning, giving up just one hit and striking out one.
Grand Valley State scored first as they posted three runs in the third inning. Junior left fielder Shelby Brayton started off the inning with a bunt single and two runs scored on back-to-back triples by freshmen designated player Sarah Holland and second baseman Kristin Moleski. Moleski came in as the third run of the inning as senior short stop Sarah Paape posted the Lakers third triple of the inning.
GVSU added two runs to their lead as Moleski recorded her second triple of the game. First baseman Crista Buresh reached first base on an error by the second baseman, which scored Moleski. Buresh advanced to second base on a wild pitch and moved to third on a ground out by Paape. She scored the Lakers second run of the inning on a wild pitch.
Palm Beach Atlantic scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but GVSU added two more in the top of the seventh to claim the 7-2 win. Moleski recorded her third hit of the game with one out in the seventh. Buresh singled to center field, advancing Moleski to second. Moleski moved to third base on as Paape reached on a fielder's choice and both runs scored as pinch hitter Amanda Brown doubled to left field.

The Lakers dropped a 6-5 decision in the bottom of the seven of game two. GVSU trailed 1-0 as Palm Beach Atlantic took the early lead after the bottom of the first inning. Grand Valley tied the game at 1-1 as Sarah Holland hit a solo home run off the score board in right center field.
Palm Beach Atlantic regained the lead scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Grand Valley tied it up added two run of its own in the top of the sixth inning. Ireton walked with two outs and scored on a double to left field by junior Stacie DelChiaro. Brown doubled to left field to bring in the second run of the inning.
The Lakers took their first lead of the game, posting two more runs in the top of the seventh inning. Marsh led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a single to left field by Moleski. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch and Marsh scored on a throwing error by the catcher. Moleski scored as Paape hit a two out single to center field.
GVSU led, 5-3 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, however, a walk and a single put the tying runs on with no outs. A second walk loaded the bases, but GVSU was able to get back-to-back force outs at home. The next batters singled, scoring two runs to tie the game at 5-5. With runners on the corners, Vanessa Cacchioli knocked in the game winning run.
Sophomore Allison Crews started the game, pitching six innings for the Lakers. She allowed eight hits and five runs, while walking and striking out one. Cole recorded the loss as she pitched the seventh inning and allowed two hits and one run.
Marsh was 3-for-4 with a run scored and Moleski went 2-for-4 in the game. Grand Valley tallied nine hits in the game by six different players.
