Lakers Drop 3-2 Overtime Decision at Saginaw Valley
 

 
 
 

 
Junior Jenny Swalec recorded her third goal of the season as the Lakers dropped a 3-2 OT decision at Saginaw Valley State.

Grand Valley State fell, 3-2 (OT), in its GLIAC opener at Saginaw Valley State. The Lakers fall to 8-3 overall and 0-1 in GLIAC play. GVSU will host Northern Michigan on Friday, Oct. 8 at 3:00 p.m. and Northwood on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 1:00 p.m.

The match was scoreless after the first half, but Saginaw Valley took a 1-0 lead as they scored first in the second half. The Lakers tied it at 1-1 on a junior forward Jenny Swalec goal assisted by junior forward Mirela Tutundzic at the 54:43 mark. Grand Valley went ahead, 2-1, as sophomore midfielder Shannon Carrier posted a goal off a senior midfielder April Raynovich assist at the 79:33 mark. However, SVSU scored with under two minutes remaining in the match to send it into overtime. Saginaw added the game-winning goal at the 98:40 mark to seal the win.

Sophomore Erin Murphy allowed three goals and recorded one save in the loss. GVSU tallied 28 shots, including 14 shots on goal, while Saginaw Valley posted just five shots and four shots on goal.
